The event organized by EPDA on behalf of the FitDrive project was held in Dublin on 16th and 17th April. Some preliminary results of the project were presented. The event alongside the Transport Research Arena (TRA) was very successful. Among the high-level speakers we highlight Ewa Ptaszyńska, deputy head of the road transport of the Directorate General MOVE of the European Commission.

Amazing conclusion of the day with a demonstration of the neurophysiologic sensors by Gianluca Di Flumeri. Thank you to Ewa Ptaszyńska who volunteered for the demonstration. Thanks to a simple game of air traffic control, the sensors report brain activity during stressful situations.

The Greek Road Safety Institute RSI – Panos Mylonas led by Mrs. Vasiliki Mylonas visited EDISER headquarters in Montpellier (France) on mid-April.
As part of an interchange road safety project between several European countries, RSI made a stop in Montpellier to visit one of EDISER’s French offices. The president of RSI, Mrs. Vasiliki Mylonas comments: “It was very interesting to visit the EDISER headquarters and learn about the most recent innovations in the field of driving simulators and other French innovations in the field of road safety. Our collaboration began a few years ago and has already given the first results. Being part of EFA also means this: connecting people to increase your network of contacts and better spread road safety”.

EFA meets Nepal’s National Road Safety Council (https://nrsc.gov.np/ ). Last December at the extraordinary UNECE WP.1 event held at the IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Education) EFA met the Nepalese delegate, Mr. Saroj Pradhan . On April 26th EFA visits the NRSC headquarters, where the foundations are laid for a long and fruitful collaboration in the field of training and road safety. The General Secretary of EFA, Mr. Manuel Picardi, comments: “We are very proud to have met such motivated people in the diffusion of road safety, as Mr. Saroj Pradhan and Mr. Nugal Vaidya. We are organizing ourselves to carry out a training session for driving instructors, especially motorcycle instructors. On April 27th EFA has had the opportunity to visit a local driving school to better understand how the driving licence system works and what training measures can be applied. Some motorcycle instructors have been invited to be part of the next motorcycle instructor training event to be held in the republic Czech on May 24th (see EFA March Newsletter).

The European Commission responds to MEP Roman Haider regarding the Euroquestion on the shortage of professional drivers and the possibility of creating incentives for women in this regard. The European Commission has published at the European Road Safety Observatory, the Annual Statistical Report on road safety in the EU. The report provides an overview of crash data for 2012 to 2022 from 27 EU Member States and the four EFTA countries.
In 2020, the ITF published Safe Micromobility, a report assessing the safety of micromobility and new mobility services. In the four years since publication, much has changed in terms of the evidence base regarding the safety of micromobility. This report summarises an analysis of the current evidence base of the most recent micromobility safety trends and risks. It provides safety recommendations for both authorities and micromobility operators in line with the Safe System approach.
